A love letter to emerging alternative wedding suppliers
To the suppliers who are just beginning.
To the ones building quietly after hours.
To the makers still finding confidence in their style.
To the businesses that feel caught between who they are and who they think they should be.
To the creatives who know they are not conventional, but have not yet fully allowed themselves to show it.
This is for you.
You do not need to have everything figured out. You do not need a perfect portfolio. You do not need years of experience.
But you do need to arrive honestly and to show us who you are.
Alternative weddings are not just an aesthetic. They are not simply black dresses, candles, tattoos, or dark florals. And the suppliers who thrive within this world are not simply selling products… they are helping people feel seen.
At Dark Wedding Collective, we are often approached by businesses who want to join the directory or exhibit at our fairs. Some are brand new, some are experienced but exploring a different direction. Some are deeply alternative in private life but hesitant to let that identity become visible within their business. And some are still trying to understand where they belong.
We understand all of that.
The truth is, couples searching for alternative suppliers are not simply looking for vendors. They are looking for recognition and for people who understand them instinctively. People who do not need the concept explained.
And it’s our job to support the business that live in this space, and filter out those that do not (or at least don’t show that side).
Sometimes this means we say no.
When a portfolio contains no evidence of alternative style, no visible creative identity, no clear point of view, or no connection to the audience we serve, no awareness of diversity, inclusivity or shared social values, or the portfolio is all AI, it becomes difficult for us to confidently place that business within the Dark Wedding Collective world.
We are not looking for perfection. But you do need to show evidence of your voice.
If you apply to Dark Wedding Collective and we feel you are not quite ready, please know that this is not a rejection of your potential. It’s that we don’t yet understand your vision and where you sit.
So if you are not there yet, this is your invitation to:
Lean further into what excites you, even if it feels niche.
Create work that reflects the couples you want to attract, not the ones you feel expected to serve.
Collaborate with like minded creatives and build something that feels true, not safe.
Show us your perspective, not just your ability.
Let your work say something.
Because when it does, the right people will recognise themselves in it. And when you’re ready, we will see you.
The alternative wedding world needs new voices.
It needs fresh perspectives.
It needs emerging creatives.
It needs people brave enough to make work that feels personal.
And we would love to welcome you when your work reflects that.
