A dark and decadent wedding inspired by American Horror Story: Hotel
There is something irresistibly seductive about the world of American Horror Story: Hotel.
A place where glamour and danger intertwine. Where velvet drapes conceal dark secrets, candlelight flickers against gilded walls and beauty exists alongside the macabre. It was this intoxicating blend of luxury, mystery and gothic romance that inspired this breathtaking styled wedding shoot at Nottingham's Cosy Club.
Brought to life by a talented team of alternative wedding creatives, the shoot transformed the art deco interiors into a scene worthy of the enigmatic Hotel Cortez itself. Rich textures, dramatic florals and ritualistic details combined to create a wedding aesthetic that felt both timeless and deliciously dark.
At the heart of the concept was Celebrant Electric Joy Ceremonies, whose vision drew inspiration not only from the decadent world of Hotel, but also from the witchcraft, ritual and symbolism woven throughout Coven. The result was a ceremony space that felt deeply atmospheric; a celebration of love wrapped in mystery, intention and a touch of the supernatural.
The striking styling was created by Foxglove & Black, who expertly balanced gothic drama with art deco elegance. Luxurious black and emerald velvet provided the backdrop, while pearls, skulls and geometric details echoed the architecture of the venue. Gold candelabras dripped with dark florals, their warm glow softening the shadows and creating a sense of old-world opulence.
Maddison Rocks Floral embraced the darker side of romance, creating dramatic arrangements rich in deep crimson tones. Skulls nestled amongst lush blooms while art deco fan details added structure and sophistication, creating designs that felt both beautiful and slightly dangerous.
The bridal look perfectly captured the spirit of the shoot. A fitted black sequin gown by Ryley & Flynn shimmered beneath the candlelight, its daring silhouette bringing a modern edge to the gothic styling. Alongside her, the groom wore an exquisite black and gold brocade ensemble that felt entirely at home amongst the grandeur of the setting. Together they embodied a love story that was dark, confident and unapologetically alternative.
Every finishing touch added another layer to the narrative. An art deco-inspired marble cake by Shirley Rae incorporated geometric gold details that mirrored the styling throughout the shoot. A bespoke newspaper by Photopress offered a playful nod to the storytelling elements of American Horror Story, while a heart-embroidered leather jacket by Niamh Designs brought a rebellious touch to the romance.
From the sweeping staircase to the blood-red accents, from candlelit corners to carefully placed skulls, Gem Wright Photo & Film captured every detail to create a wedding world that felt immersive and cinematic.
For couples who find beauty in darkness, who are drawn to old-world glamour, gothic romance and stories with a little mystery at their heart, this shoot serves as a reminder that alternative weddings can be every bit as luxurious, elegant and unforgettable as their traditional counterparts.
Because sometimes the most captivating love stories are found in the shadows.
